Tips for uploading

Cross your fingers, this upload thingie is really ghetto // Try to keep tracks to 44khz/128bit/mp3 // Try to have tracks tagged correctly // Leave a note in the shoutbox to let us know there's a new track to get it in the playlist quicker // ZIP with multiple tracks in them are okay.

Culture Failure

It’s Back Kinda

September 4, 2009 by floyd @ 11:05 am

After a whole bunch of down time, we’re broadcasting culture failure once again. We started shoutcasting quite along time ago (5 years?  I dunno) and the combination of being spammed by goons from myspace and bandwidth problems made me turn it off for a bit.

We used to have an “upload more failure” link to let listeners contribute tracks they thought would fit in to our playlist, and I’m going to put that feature back in ASAP.

I’m going to update the playlist (it’s exactly as we left it when we shut down…) and hopefully I can get The Glenn to contribute some new mixes as well.

Finally, my apologies – this website is really ghetto, but it will have to do for now.  If you have any thoughts or feedback, feel free to leave it here.

  4. Thanks for the great music. Any chance you could go high tech ghetto and offer a listen here link to the various other music player formats. It was like having to download a new Suntour Superbe Pro Group when you already have Campy Shimano and SRAM group bits all over the place. Its a nice player, player, Im just sayin… Can we all just get along ? LOL

  12. Tony, I already uploaded most of the good tracks from H.S.H., don’t bother looking for some of the older stuff- it’s no where near as good as the more recent stuff. Infact, it almost doesn’t sound like the same person. I got the Young Machines Remixed album, which surprisingly wasn’t as impressive as I’d thought it’d be. Even the Dntel remix of Japanese Gum was rather lackluster. About the only track on that album worth hearing is the first, Album Leaf’s remix of “the young machines.” It also lacked much of the more instrumental works like that heard on “my boyfriend’s girlfriend” single, the “b-side” track of which I uploaded entitled “Clock in, Clock out”

  13. Honestly Floyd, if you’re going to do anymore trimming- I’d plead with you to get rid of the old william orbit tracks. I absolutely detest those tracks- and of course- the shaggs “my pal foot-foot”

Some of the other stuff is really great though, like SOME of the brian eno tracks- my favorite having the clip of the excorcism “jezebel spirit.”

Not to mention, some of the id3 tags appear to have gotten “mixed up” Half of them display an artist’s name next to a mismatched song title, or vice versa.

And lastly, the garbled, mis-encoded mp3’s have GOT to go. I’m only glad I’m close to the mute button when they play.

That being said, with all the little kinks to work out- CF is still great, and I’m really happy to see it again.

  14. re: the garbled thing

its really annoying, but basically i think its a bug in the linux broadcasting software. i’ve manually listened to every MP3 and they are fine. so, i’ve got to change the way the music get piped into the server and it’s just hard to get the time :/

i really sucks though, i’ll fix it soon.

  15. Man, that does suck. It’s times like these that I wish I had got mad programming skillz from watching all those movies like Wargames and Tron.
